La pelÃcula se desarrolla en los años 40 y narra la historia de Manuel (Geraldo del Rey) un vaquero que, cansado del maltrato que recibe de manos de su patrón, lo mata y huye con su esposa Rosa. Prófugos de la justicia, Manuel y Rosa recorren las baldÃas tierras norteñas combatiendo el terror fÃsico y espiritual que parece haber poseÃdo el paÃs. Dirigida por Glauber Rocha y considerada por muchos como la pelÃcula mas importante del cine brasilero, Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (1964), es una hermosa exploración del contexto polÃtico y social de su paÃs.
