Resumen:

During the last decade, there has been a dramatic change in the way in which China’s domestic and foreign policies have been presented by mass media in the Andean region[1]. Nowadays, it is not a rare occurrence when China-related news is making headlines of local TV programs and newspapers in this part of the Western Hemisphere. In addition, there are more reportings on China-Andean related issues then there had been in the past.  This change can be considered as an important evidence of the growing incidence of China in the countries of the Andean region, in particular, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. Yet, so far there has been almost no attempt to analyse the evolution of China’s image as reflected by editorials and opinion columns of major print media of the region. This paper is intending to fill this gap by analysing the content of editorials and opinion columns on the China-related topics published by major newspapers in Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador since 2000.

[1] Usually, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia are considered as Andean countries. However, in this paper, our analysis is limited to the first three countries.
