Because of its business origin, since 1985 the Icesi has had a Center for the Development of the Entrepreneurial Spirit, CDEE. This is the first academic unit in Colombia, which, through educative processes and permanent participation of the University community encourages the creation, adaptation, and diffusion of knowledge and activities proper to the areas of The Development of the Entrepreneurial Spirit and Business Culture, Creation of Businesses, Business Education and Formation of Business Leaders.

Through special educational processes, the CDEE provides an atmosphere of learning, support, formation, motivation and of conviction which improves the disposition towards the creation of new organizations (both private and public, with or without profit), motivating the possibilities of success of the same and permitting the preservation and strengthening the organizations now in existence.

In the initial stages, academic and practical components are combined. Students begin by designing a complete Business Plan in their field of interest and network with real companies in that area. They then analyze information and business practices in addition to preparing case studies. This enables the student to make sounder decisions and to discover new opportunities in the businesses examined. It also develops creativity and innovative spirit both needed in the business world.

This exercise may also help students who wish to take first steps in creating their own business, to make their Business Plan on paper a reality.

Each project is posted in a CDEE Data Book and is available to graduates at all times.
