BackgroundTheories in business strategy have advanced rapidly during the past ten years leaving behind such models as the value chain and the theory of games to the point where today we have what is called The Strategy of Chaos for Killer Up companies (virtual companies on the Internet).
The support activity which has allowed businesses to exist and which has always been present in any of the business strategies is called LOGISTICS., This is fundamentally that area charged with the management of time, distance and information for the company, whether it deals with goods or services. It is considered to be one of the principle activities necessary to meet the challenges of globalization and the interconnection of business activity in this decade. Activities such as storage and transport are no longer thought of as links in the supply chain. Today they are managed as hubs (points of information components) within vertical networks (physical or virtual) which will provide customers the pleasant experience of being an active participant in the process of delivering their goods or services. Logistics management is structured around the principle of "cradle to cradle", that is to say, it takes into consideration such implications as the environmental impact that logistics may cause. It is no longer structured on the principle of "cradle to grave" in which the responsibility of the company ended with delivery to the distribution channel or the final consumer. Planning and purchasing functions are carried out in virtual communities which will add the elements of information and negotiation to the activity which, in turn, result in better operations and productivity through an intelligent, sensitive logistics program.
Logistics will continue its unquestioned importance and growth in all business activity and will present ever greater challenges and application. Those who find themselves in this area of the business will have one fundamental responsibility, that of providing a "time pace" or rhythm to the business in face of today´s situation.
