The next couple of weeks we will be working on Michel Chion’s book Audiovision.

Chapter 1 (Projections of Sound on Image) and chapter 2 (The Three Listening Modes) must be read for April 17th. As I explained in class last week, I will be away on a congress that day but I have organized a workshop for you to work on during class, based on the chapter mentioned above and the movie Annie Hall.

For the following week (April 24th) you must read chapter 4 (The Audiovisual Scene). You must write a series of 5 questions that can either address issues that are resolved in the reading or issues that, in your opinion, are left unclear. The presentation must also be accompanied by visual tools such as p.points, videos, etc.

The movie Punch Drunk Love (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2002) must be seen by May 8th, and finally, chapter 7 (Sound Film – Worthy of the Name) and chapter 10 (Introduction to an Audiovisual Analysis) must be read for the same class (the 1st of May is a bank holiday). The same exercise done for chapter 4 applies for chapter 7 and must be handed in on May 8th.

Make sure you hand in your work on time, especially if you are concerned about your grades.
