The dermatologist is the doctor who studies diseases that affect the skin and its attachments (hair and nails). Due to its continuity with the skin, diseases which affect the oral mucosa fall under the field of action for the dermatologist.
In order to become a dermatologist, one should study the medical career and then complete the Specialization in Dermatology, which has a duration of 3 to 4 years in our country.
The field of knowledge for the dermatologist is extensive. As the skin is a visible organ, thousands of diseases which have presented themselves on it have been described and studied. Said diseases can be congenital or acquired; inflammatory, tumor massed, or infectious; chronic or acute; some are self-limiting, others cannot be cured but can be controlled.

Dermatology has been estimated to represent between 5% and 12% of all consultations in primary care centers, and also includes a significant volume of inter-consultations from other specialists.
