Objective
To train highly qualified specialists in psychiatry with the highest human, ethical, and scientific qualities. Pursuant to the pedagogical model at University Ices and with the Fundación Valle del Lili foundation, the Specialization in Psychiatry program aims to train independent specialists, capable of learning on their own, of analyzing and synthesizing, with critical thinking and that are also able to formulate and develop research projects.
Methodology
The program for specializations in psychiatry incorporates solid organizational forms for academic and practical activities, such as: lectures, outpatient clinic (patient care), inpatient (patient care), therapeutic groups, psychoeducational groups, clinical case discussions, liaison psychiatry interconsultation care, planning and organizing community activities, service journals (professor-assisted), mortality and complication meetings, clinical cases, journal clubs, supervised practices, research project reviews and follow-ups, ethics committee, clinical history committee, epidemiologic committee, conferences, optional insight credits and seminars. All of these activities link action and engagement for residents and guarantee quality in their training.
The program comprises a theoretical and practical component, the theoretical component will be developed with a self-directed active learning methodology based on problems in which the resident prepare topics ahead of time and discuss the cases assessed in different areas of practice; similarly, questions will be reviewed during seminars and there will be discussions on lectures that had taken place as well as the cases that were presented.
The practical component comprises the handling patient interview activities, psychopathological evaluations, biopsychosocial analyses, therapeutic as well as pharmacotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic proposals, and preventive and promotional interventions.
Duration
This is a 3 year program duration program, exclusive focus, and full time, with an average of 8 daily hours activity, with rotations of an approximate duration of 3 to 4 months. One weekly clinical case is completed and presented by residents along with a training activity such as topic review, journal clubs, ethical considerations in mental health, and insight in prevention and promotion aspects. Three weekly theory classes are held as average . All activities are related to the practical component linked to each of the rotational sites.
