Why the Social Neuroscience Master’s Program?

 It is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary program that offers advanced education to solve the country’s and the region’s metal health and social problems. Because of its multidisciplinary essence, it allows a multilevel approach (magnetic resonance, electrophysiology, behavioral and /or experimental measurements) that allows that a set of problems be studied  from the biology, cognitive and social perspectives.

This line studies basic processes and cognition inherent in the functioning of the human mind, with special interest in the process of human cognition in subjects with typical development. Its application occurs in economic, social, cultural and political settings.

Objective

To train researchers for the generation of knowledge in cognitive and brain processes that explain social cognition in human beings with typical development, with pathological development and in psychosocial vulnerability conditions.

Student profile

Because of the nature of the Master’s degree, the program is directed to professional in the areas of : Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Natural and Mathematics Sciences, Business and Economics Sciences and Engineering. They must show interest and/or experience in research in themes related to the neurosciences.

Alumni profile

The alumni of the Master’s degree in Social Neuroscience, once graduated, will be able to:

  • Explain the functioning of social cognition
  • Understand the interaction between the cognitive and brain processes of social cognition in subjects with typical development, with pathological development and in psychosocial vulnerability conditions
  • Formulate problems and research objectives to contribute to scientific knowledge in the field of social neuroscience
  • Implement research proposals from the use of concepts, methods and techniques from social neuroscience
  • Communicate and socialize, scientifically, results from the research process

Academic support

The Master’s Degree Program in Social Neuroscience has, mainly, the support of the Law and Social Sciences School and the Psychology Department, but since its nature is multidisciplinary, it has the participation of different Icesi University schools that have a group of first class professors and researchers.

Research groups

Nexos, the Law and Social Sciences research group strengthens the academic work of different programs. It works on social neuroscience and cognition. Besides, the program has the support of the biomedical research group from the Health Sciences School.

  • Brain bases of cognition in violence and psychosocial vulnerability. Studies individuals and groups in situation of helplessness and violence caused by an impact provoked by any type of social, economic, political or individual event.
  • Neurosciences and cognition. This line studies basic cognition processes and those inherent to the functioning of the human mind, with an special interest in human cognition processes in subjects with typical development. Its application is given in economic, social, cultural and political scenarios.
