Our focus

Sociology students at Universidad Icesi strengthen their critical thinking and analytical skills. They are also passionate about investigating social issues and understanding local and global problems. They work to come up with strategies that contribute to social well-being. Our program provides them with the knowledge to design, implement, and evaluate projects or lead social sector institutions.

Graduate profile

Icesi sociologists are professionals who:

  • design and execute academic and applied research projects in various social areas such as health, education, urban security, labor relations, among many others
  • are capable of directing the creation, management, execution or evaluation of social programs and projects both in the private sector, as well as in the public and mixed sectors
  • can support strategies of innovation, organizational culture, human management and social responsibility in the business environment
  • can produce complex analyses and texts for the media, public opinion training or, in the private sphere, advertising and marketing studies.

Fields of action

The field of sociology is very broad and diverse. Graduates can work for the state, NGOs, the private sector, the media, or academia, performing tasks such as:

  • Analyzing the causes of social problems and working with the state or with multilateral organizations to find solutions.
  • Designing and implementing strategies with international and national NGOs such as UNICEF, the World Health Organization, Doctors without Borders, Fundacion Corona and others to prevent illnesses.
  • Analyzing the characteristics of consumer groups for the private sector and marketing and advertising agencies.
  • Implementing programs so that companies’ actions have a positive impact on their employees and on society.
  • Working in academia in the areas of teaching and research.
