Understanding the relationship between facial expressions and voting intention<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cuando estudiamos elecciones partimos del hecho que el acto procedimental propio de una democracia es el proceso electoral. Es decir, en una democracia el\u00a0 acceso a cargos p\u00fablicos se realiza trav\u00e9s de elecci\u00f3n popular. Entonces, se puede decir que el voto es el acto pol\u00edtico m\u00e1s frecuente en un sistema democr\u00e1tico y que refleja valores y concepciones profundas de los derechos y deberes de los individuos en la sociedad (Dahl, 1989).<\/p>\n<p>La pregunta que nos hacemos es la siguiente \u00bfen qu\u00e9 basa el votante su decisi\u00f3n? Esta pregunta abre un debate muy interesante propio de la ciencia pol\u00edtica. Dicho debate parte de la premisa que la decisi\u00f3n del votante (Downs, 1957) se basa en la consideraci\u00f3n del votante que dar\u00e1 a su gobierno una acci\u00f3n m\u00e1s \u00fatil. Sin embargo, esta explicaci\u00f3n es parcial e incompleta al explicar el comportamiento humano, porque los individuos son (somos) afectados por emociones y factores ambientales externos al votar.<\/p>\n<p>Esto quiere decir que la forma en que votamos depende de varios factores y que es necesario comprender qu\u00e9 motiva o desmotiva al votante y sobre todo, por qu\u00e9 las personas votamos deformas espec\u00edficas, guiadas por diferentes incentivos e intereses.<\/p>\n<p>Existen varios factores externos en torno al ejercicio del voto, que condicionan el comportamiento de los individuos. Es decir, como la arena pol\u00edtica es un campo en el cual la evaluaci\u00f3n es un proceso importante, muchos factores psicol\u00f3gicos y sociales afectan la participaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica individual. Consecuentemente, lo que preocupa a la ciencia pol\u00edtica es entender cu\u00e1les son las din\u00e1micas que determinan el \u00e9xito de un l\u00edder (o candidato) para influir y por ende, ganar votantes y cu\u00e1les son las que condenan a un l\u00edder (o candidato) al fracaso electoral.<\/p>\n<p>Es aqu\u00ed donde se hace un puente entre el marketing y la ciencia pol\u00edtica. Porque para respondernos estas inquietudes debemos primero saber qu\u00e9 motiva a los votantes, qu\u00e9 factores psicol\u00f3gicos y sociales afectan su toma de decisi\u00f3n y c\u00f3mo se comporta el votante medio durante el proceso electoral.
