Resumen

Este trabajo tuvo como objetivos medir el alfabetismo financiero entre millennials de Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, México; evaluar tres índices de medición para determinar el más conveniente y explorar su relación con variables sociodemográficas. Se utilizó un método basado en análisis de factores componentes principales y modelos probit ordenados. Los resultados confirman que entre la muestra analizada persiste una significativa brecha de género, que la formación económico-financiera se asocia positivamente al alfabetismo financiero y que un buen modelo para medirlo debe evaluar conocimientos sobre inflación, diversificación del riesgo, interés simple e interés compuesto. Estos hallazgos pueden aplicarse al diseño de estrategias de educación financiera que propicien la inversión y el emprendimiento entre jóvenes y, por ende, el desarrollo económico y social.
