The globalization and interconnectivity of the contemporary world has allowed us to connect with all kinds of people around the world and read articles or books more easily. However, being able to fully understand another language, has become a barrier to having full access to information. This is the reason why Icesi is the only University in the whole Valle del Cauca that has eight levels of English as it recognizes its importance.

In addition to English levels, the university also plans to use it in a situational way in some classes that are recognized as Cursos I. In those courses, it is necessary to make oral presentations and written work in this language. Through the eight levels and the Cursos I, the aim is to develop skills and dispositions for significant and creative communication, thinking of this as an integrated linguistic competence and seeking the development of an intercultural personality. Furthermore, transversal courses allow the language to be explored in different contexts, interpreting, and expressing clear ideas in a written and oral way. To achieve this, teachers ensure that the student learns through different ways, such as attention, understanding, practice, assimilation, and creation. With the goal of accompanying the teachers in this process, they have the support of the English Learning Center (E.L. Center) where all the monitors are always willing to help with any questions that the students have.
