It was opened in 1969 under the town hall of Marino Rengifo Salcedo and was managed at the time by the municipality, but due to mismanagement, it almost closed, until the year 1981 , on October 1st , the nonprofit foundation Cali Zoo took care of it. Since then, it began to remodel the exhibits, in addition to a breeding program that has earned it international recognition and has established itself as one of the best Latin American zoos.
