Cátalogos colectivos = Metabuscador RUAV
Publicado el 4 04UTC septiembre 04UTC 2009 81 comentariosLa actual demanda de información en la Web trae consigo grandes retos para las bibliotecas, quienes buscan mejores alternativas para permitir el acceso a la información, pero son muchas las fuentes que se pueden tener y es cada vez más difícil su manejo. Las instituciones están uniendo fuerzas para garantizar el acceso simultáneo, compartiendo recursos y unificando criterios.
La prueba más grande de los trabajos cooperativos para facilitar la recuperación de información especializada es el de la creación de catálogos colectivos, donde varios fondos bibliográficos o colecciones de cada biblioteca incluida en el consorcio son consultadas por un recurso que recolecta y recupera la información, a este recurso se le suele llamar metabuscador.
¿Que más pueden hacer los catálogos colectivos?
Los catálogos colectivos o metabuscadores, además de buscar los libros y demás recursos de todas las instituciones inscritas, también puede buscar en los sitios de información especializada o bases de datos a los que están inscritas las bibliotecas, esto permite un acceso rápido y único a recursos que todos comparten y que facilita el acceso inmediato al texto completo.
Esto se describe mejor en el artículo “Gestión de colecciones en entornos consorciados: modelos de catálogos colectivos y organización de recursos electrónicos” de Gisela Ruiz Chacón, donde menciona las siguientes características de un catálogo colectivo:
- Existencia de registros bibliográficos separados.
- Procesos independientes de adquisiciones, control de publicaciones periódicas y circulación.
- Resultados desduplicados para el usuario final.
- Visualización fusionada e integrada de registros y fondos locales en el web opac
- Compatibilidad con http, Z39.50 y xml.
- Posibilidades búsqueda a texto completo y a índices específicos desde el opac.
- Disponibilidad de bases de datos de autoridades y recursos externos.
- Acceso a datos no bibliográficos.
Existe una gran cantidad de recursos en el mercado que facilitan este proceso y son comprados por bibliotecas en todo el mundo, entre los más reconocidos están: MetaLib & SFX (Ex Libris), EnCompass & LinkFinder, Millenium Access Plus (MAP), Sirsi SingleSearch de Sirsi, Vectors, MuseSearch, WebFeat, AGent (Auto-Graphics), Zones (BiblioMondo), Horizon Information Portal (Dynix), ZPortal (Fretwell-Downing), Polaris 3.0 (Gaylord), YouSeeMore (TLC).
En el caso de Cali, por medio de la Red de Alta Velocidad del Valle – RUAV se reunieron las Universidades Icesi, Universidad del Valle, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad Libre, Universidad Santiago de Cali y Universidad Autónoma de Occidente y Universidad San Buenaventura, quienes eligieron WebFeat como herramienta y actualmente cuentan con este recurso compartido como Metabuscador RUAV.
